The overall aim or focus of the course is the nursing of patients who are critically ill and the in-depth study of the pathophysiological mechanisms of disease. It covers four major topics.
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- Concepts of holism applied to critical care nursing practice
- Professional practice issues in critical care
- Special populations in critical care
- Pathologic Conditions
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- Describe the physiological and pathological mechanisms of disease production in patients requiring intensive care nursing.
- Illustrate the ways in which treatments and nursing interventions influence the body's remarkable ability to compensate for the pathophysiological changes in disease.
