Introduction: Basic Anatomy
This is an introductory pre-clinical course that is divided into five major topics including; Skeletal and muscular system, Arthrology, Respiratory System and Cardiovascular System. This is a prerequisite course to clinical placement. This period of study is for students to develop a working knowledge of anatomical principles and to be capable of relating their knowledge of anatomy to disease states and to Nursing interventions.
 
Objectives
At the end of this period of study, the student will be able to:
  • Describe the anatomy of the major body systems
  • Understand the significance of the study of anatomy to the practice of Nursing
  • Identify the anatomical relationship between systems of the body and the disease states
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this unit, students should be able to;
  • Describe the terminology for accurately determining the position and structure of an organ in the body
  • Critically appraise Direction of movements of parts or entire body
  • Describe the location, structure and function of the different components of the respiratory and cardiovascular systems.
  • Appreciate the Importance of blood vessels in relations to physical and vital examination of the patients.
