Basic Physiology

An Undergraduate Library Subject Guide providing suggested resources and other information for beginning research on the topic Basic Physiology.

Introduction: Basic Physiology
This course is designed to equip students with a strong foundation and basis of human physiology, understanding the link between structure and function of body cells, organs. It allows them to understand the normal functions of organ-systems and prepares them to approach pathophysiology of certain conditions.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, students should be able to:
  • Outline the different functional systems of the body and their homeostatic mechanisms.
  • Understand the basic organization of the cell and the functions of its component parts
  • Use the different laboratory methods to test and interpret the different body system parameters.
  • Apply scientific findings to advance medical knowledge and improve service delivery.
Competences
By the end of this course, students should be able to:
  • Assess normal and diagnose deviation from normal physiology
  • Interpret the different laboratory and non-laboratory investigations
  • Use various body fluid substitutes in electrolyte and fluid replacement.
